Our afternoon visitor took his leave of us as dusk was beginning to fall and as I walked him to his car, I couldn't help but notice the sky beginning to take colour. As I had my new compact in my pocket, I followed his car to the junction with the main road and with every step, the colours deepened. This was the view that greeted me as I looked west across the fields from the end of the lane. I took several shots and walked the 150 metres back to the house; by the time I got there, the colours had all but gone. Sunsets are like that sometimes in Winter.
@mcsiegle I am Mary! It was my combined 70th birthday and Christmas present and I wanted it so that I could always have a reasonable quality but compact camera with me at all times... it paid off today.
@dmcoile I exposed for the sky which left the landscape under-exposed; in processing, I lifted the exposure on the landscape and dropped the exposure of the sky a further stop, arriving at the image that you see here.
@vignouse Thanks for the details. I just read your full profile post. I'm so glad things are going well for you and your wife. Thank you for the clear delineation of how to manage this segment of life! I'm new to the project and can already see that it could be way too time consuming. I have a luxury of time right now, but can't imagine how working people with kids could do this. Relationships must come first! Thanks again.
Isn't it amazing the way the colors vary in sunsets. Your photo shows softness in the sunset and mine that I just posted looks like the sky is ablaze. I love your capture with the trees. fav
Sorry I quit looking at pictures early last night and didn't get to this one. It is so lovely. In a way a good pairing with the other picture. They are both filled with beautiful colors. And one is a beginning and the other and ending.
I love the line of trees. I've learned from carrying a camera (or not having one with me) that light of sunset/rises lasts only a few fleeting instants.
It's amazing Richard. Over the last couple of weeks there've been great sunsets - each one when I was driving on a dual carriage with no stop points, the M 25 for example. By the time I reached a place to pull over they were gone, or the best of them was over. Very frustrating. I don't get a clear enough view at home!
