What doesn't show clearly here, but what first caught my eye, is that these two elderly couples marched - that's the only word for it - in perfect formation step like a military patrol on a mission... in complete contrast to the laid-back young people behind them.
High heels and hats! But they are holding hands! As you say, a different generation but these young lot might become exactly the same in the years to come!
This shot shows the demeanor contrasts quite well...older couples look a bit formal whereas the younger group look loser and more approachable...great shot, composition
I really like the story in this image. The contrast in the two groups is amazing. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but I might want to see it with the horizon leveled.
This is an interesting shot, for all the reasons you detailed in your comments. The body language tells the tale, certainly. On a personal note... I urge our tourists to give up those heels in their touring boots! ;) A telling generational picture and lovely candid capture.
So many contrasts here that it almost looks like you used models. It's really perfect in the contrast of dress, the body language, the grouping. I like how you've processed this.
Such crispness to this photo, a feature that goes perfectly with the stark expressions of the two couples. I'll be imagining their "marching" steps for the rest of the day now. You've created a picture that gets the mind to thinking. Well done.
Methinks the demeanour of the adults screams ex military personnel. I find their clone appearance quite unsettling. By contrast, the relaxed grouping of the Youth Team suggests a mutually supportive and sympa dynamic. The full cheeked smile is the cherry on the cake! Peerless!
@nap101 Hello Nancy - the image as shot was square and upright but it obviously slipped slightly when I was cropping out a parked car. Correction duly made as requested and I hope you like it better now... but do bear in mind that the ground slopes away to the left which confuses the eye somewhat.
I'm full of admiration for the older woman with those high heels 1 (I can scarcely walk in flats.) I'd love to see more people wearing hats, not just beanies. This is a wonderfully observed shot.

You didn't need to change it just for me. I hope you like it better.
