La Roche Bernard: Le Vieux Port by vignouse

La Roche Bernard: Le Vieux Port

This street is preserved as it would have been around 400 years ago - to the left is a sheer drop of about 40 metres to the old port with its attendent buildings - the ship's chandlers, the harbour master's office, etc. These buildings were originally owned and occupied by those who needed to see the activity in the port and the comings and goings - merchants mostly - but didn't need to be right in the thick of it.

As a contrast to yesterday's image, all of these buildings are occupied - discreetly - for commercial purposes although in many cases the owner also lives 'over the shop'. Here we have an artist's gallery, a glass-blower and a jewellery maker.
Gorgeous capture!

I like the POV that our photographers do - looking along the walls of the houses/ walls/ bridges etc. This is a particularly pretty pathway!

I love these ancient structures and the stories behind them, Richard. It just boggles my mind to think about what was taking place in this very spot 400 years ago!

Another inviting view. The history in this walkway is palpable. I really enjoy how the artists are living discretely above their shops. :)
