This is absolutely lovely.....such a different world than we inhabit here! So homey, and so cozy, and I love all the clothes hanging from the railings of the staircase!! BTW, is your cat named after the town in Crete?!
@panthora Osia - you've spoiled me rotten with all your kind comments and Favs on this series of fish-eye photos... very much appreciated. The 'clothes' on the bannisters are scarves - both Mrs S and I like wearing them so these are unisex! Yes, Chania is named for the ancient capital of Crete: we fell in love with a stray cat there years ago and I still regret not adopting her but it would have been difficult and very expensive. Our Chania was a stray who adopted us so the name seemed appropriate.
Many years ago We had a lovely holiday at Chania where we often ate in the restaurants in the small streets. Happy holiday makers are prime targets for scavenging cats and onesuch adopted us, sitting prettily on a chair at our table. R cracked big time and fed her tiny morsels which she ate, daintily.
Fast forward several years...so that we're living @ Vignouse and a stray cat bowls up. We gave what Princesse (wonderful previous dog) didn't eat. She became a regular visitor and we think her 'people' had moved without taking her with them. She's 9ish, according to vet's best feline teeth knowledge. Given her precarious circumstances, she had to be called Chania. QED!
@s4sayer@panthora As a postscript to this, the cat in question was always to be found at a little restaurant ran by a man called George. We never did find out the name of the restaurant, but as I named the cat Zeta, the restaurant was always referred to by us as Zeta's place. Sadly, at the end of the tourist season the majority of these strays don't survive the Winter.
@vignouse@s4sayer Oh, my, this is so very lovely hearing from both of you!! :-)))) Yes, I am all too familiar with those stray cats that hang around the outdoor restaurants in those towns. I grew up in Istanbul (Constantinople) to Greek parents, and we used to spend the summers at the islands in the Sea of Marmara, about an hour from the city on the ferryboat. Those were lovely times, there were no vehicles, just horse drawn carriages and donkeys for transport, and every year we would adopt another family of strays at the house that we rented for the summer. My brother and I fed all the stray cats under the table when we would go out to dinner with my parents! The saddest part was leaving "our strays" behind when we returned to the city in the fall. Crete is one of my absolute favorite islands in Greece!!
