Still somewhat tired after a busy trip to England, I elected to potter around the garden rather than go out and about chasing images. This little cluster of bramble leaves was too striking to ignore - one finds beauty in the simplest of things.
I have veggied in the chair a lot and played creating my scrap page. Mine was 9 long days on the road and it and the summer have left me beat. Have you tried focus stacking?
This is a wonderful autumn leaf shot. So clear with the background just out of focus.
@joansmor I was away 10 days and did a fair bit of driving and some long days. No, I haven't tried focus stacking but I think it's a useful technique - if somewhat fiddly - for macro work. The differential focus in this image is exactly the effect I was aiming for.
@trm I can see why you would think that but in fact, this was taken with a Nikon 18-135mm lens that I picked up in England at a reasonable price... this is at 135mm wide open.
@jasperc I guess 'nothing' is the straight answer but I thought I could leave it on my D5100 to create a general purpose take-anywhere camera with a useful focal range. In reality, it was there, not too expensive... so I bought it!
@vignouse yes sir, before commenting I read the exif data. I'll say you got a very sharp lens. f/5.6 and 1/1250 is beautiful. May I ask how close this is to SOOC only because it is so sharp and rich in color. I have always used the word color instead of colour.
@trm Hi Richard, thanks for your kind comments. This has only had what I call my 'standard' raw conversion: I boost the shadows some, reduce the highlights, set a white and black point and boost mid-range contrast (clarity) a small amount. The end result is not hugely different from the raw file, but it is a little brighter and crisper.
