I found this in the garage - if you look carefully you can see that there are lots of baby spiders too. Lunch is a shield bug all trussed up in silk ready to be eaten... but there are also baby spiders caught up in the web for future consumption!
This species is sometimes called a Daddy Long Legs Spider but its more common name is Cellar Spider, and its proper name is Pholcus Phalangioides. They often prey on other spider species or on their own, as as these are intending to do.
I love this take on nature. With those long legs, they certainly look menacing. And that poor wrapped spider is probably still alive. The stuff of horror movies!
I love spiders and fortunately in our neck of the woods, there are no poisonous ones. Any I find in the house, I put on plants and they eat any/all the tiny bugs.
I hate these little sneaky beasts full of cruelty that leave to dry their prey but I must admit that this little family meeting is very graceful and artistic . Congratulations to the talented photographer. FAV
Spider dining at its finest, wrapped beautifully in silk. They say presentation is everything in serving a memorable meal, and I certainly would remember this one. Interesting image and description.
