The Michaelmas Daisies are proving to be a rich hunting ground this week. This little worker bee caught my eye because of the huge amount of pollen she is carrying - she has the same load on the other side of her thorax.
@seattlite Thanks Gloria: I guess the pollen doesn't weigh much but it must impact on the bee's aerodynamics and wing movements. It's always been said though that it's aerodynamically impossible for a bee to fly... but the bee doesn't know that 😏

@gardencat I watched some well laden ones today and the speed and alacrity with which they flit from bloom to bloom seems totally unaffected by their burden.
