NF-SOOC Day 18: Cathedral of St. Pierre, Saintes

I posted a night-time view of the tower of the cathedral 16 March... err, towering over the city buildings and I had intended to post the inside yesterday but I didn't like any of my images so I went back and retook them today. The roof construction is typical of the 12C period - the only carpenters capable of constructing such a vast roof were naval carpenters... so the roof is basically an upturned boat.

This is for my annual NF-SOOC September challenge - you can read all about it here: https://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/42451/nf-sooc-september-2019

Viewed on black it has better shadow definition...
Wonderful capture!!

In principle, not unlike Paimpont Abbey's ceiling...although that's loyalty and familiarity...and slightly smaller scale. Glorious light!

Excellent perspective, repetition, lighting

It's a beautiful capture of the sanctuary. I like the roof and can see that it's like a ship hull. is the sanctuary long and narrow as depicted in this photo or is there more to the right and left of the columns?

What incredible craftsmanship in that roof. The resemblance to an upturned boat is very clear. Looks like a very impressive old church building.

I really like the way the colors graduate from dark to light. The place is beautiful and so is your image.

@randystreat Spot on Kathy, the nave is indeed in three aisles and there is a transept leading off the two outer aisles: I took this image about a third of the way in.
