When we look back on a year - or, indeed, a life - we tend to remember the momentous moments, be they pleasurable or horribly difficult. The reality of course is that our existence is fashioned from a series of small mundane happenings that, in their context, are also important to our well-being. The anticipation of an after-dinner cup-of-coffee, for example, is always guaranteed to put a smile on Mrs S's face.
Looks like you have returned home. I think the little things are the one I like to remember most. My mother sitting in the chair and watching the day awake. She knew the series the street lights turned off. It was her joy to watch these and my joy to remember her sitting there in this little moment. They are the real moments like waiting for after dinner coffee.
