What a difference a few days can make: we left home on Monday for a short break in our Motor Home and returned Saturday evening to find everything green. The trees are in leaf, the wild cherry is extravagant with blossom, the winter wheat in the field has doubled in height... and, of course, the grass needs cutting!
I took this view of the house this evening, on my way back from a late afternoon walk in the forest.
Autumn leaves are pretty but need to be raked up. winter snow is pretty but needs to be shoveled, green grass in spring and summer needs to be mowed. It never ends - beauty comes with a price.
Nature's beauty is deepened by living and working with it. Without the toil, one would miss so much...first leaves; petals emerging from sepals; a snatch of bird song; a fox's bark; glow worms on a late evening dog stroll..and so much more. For me it's a no brainer. Nature + toil = Calm soul + exhilaration.
@s4sayer I agree with that until it comes to shoveling snow. No just teasing I have actually stopped when out shoveling in the quiet at the beauty of it all. My nephew (the gardener) is planting flowers in pots for me to attract hummers. Can't put them in the ground my nieces husband is a ruthless mower. It will be nice to pick a few weeds and maybe enjoy some hummers.
