It was warm and dry again today so I enjoyed a walk in the forest this afternoon. I was pleased to find quite a few Fairy Toadstools (in reality, Fly Agaric Fungi) and this one was a dead ringer for the ones we see in illustrated fairy stories... no sign of the occupant though ;-))
Wow, if that does not look poisonous, I don't know what does!! Shades of Forbidden Apple here, and definitely beautiful and enticing! No, we don't have them here, either!
What brilliant red! Poisonous you say? Oh but that red is so tempting. Interesting that the vegetation around the mushroom appears to be affected, as in browning/dying?
@lyndemc Yes Denise, it's the toxins that are causing the surrounding vegetation to die off, they are highly poisonous. Apparently though, if you boil them for 15 minutes the toxins will be dissipated and you can then cook them as a normal mushroom... not for the taste, but for their hallucinogenic properties - I'm happy to forego that experience!
