This is the old fishing port of St. Cast le Guildo on the northern coast of Brittany, now converted into a high-tech leisure port. The difference between high and low tides here is between 10 and 15 metres which, in the past meant that boats had to be moored a long way apart thus limiting the numbers that could be accommodated. Now, as you can see, there is an extensive system of floating pontoons which rise and fall with the tides... and the moored boats with them.
I like this best viewed on black.
This image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my post for 1 January and in my profile. I'm also tagging this for B&W February
Looks so orderly even the uprights are all so straight. Feel like getting in there and messing things up, maybe knock one of those uprights crooked. It's a fascinating photo, fav
This is a lovely shot Richard - I'm not sure I would have thought of taking this in black and white, because I would have been attracted by the colours of the boats, but it works really well.
@fishers Thanks Ian - B&W probably wouldn't have been my first choice either but my project for this year demands that all pictures are sooc and B&W so it was Hobson's Choice here!
