OCOLOY Day 68: Haunted House by vignouse

OCOLOY Day 68: Haunted House

Out with my Tuesday afternoon walking group this afternoon, we passed by the Manoir du Tertre which was built in the middle of the 17th C in the high forest above the village of Paimpont. The Manoir's claim to fame is that it was the home of one Geneviève Zaepffel who, in the 1940s and 1950s, was the most famous medium in France. There is a full length painting of her on the first landing of the impressive staircase which dominates the ground-floor. The deeds of the house state that this painting must remain with the manoir because the painting contains her spirit and at certain times she has been seen to step down from the painting and stand some distance from it.

The manoir is a guest-house today and it's spooky legend attracts visitors as it is situated in the heart of Brocéliande which is known as the 'Land of Myths and Legends' - the prime reason for visiting the area for many.

More spooky viewed on black...

This image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my profile.
It looks like a haunted house!! Nice image.

This sounds like a story I have read recently - old Manor place with a ghostly history! All good stuff and this goes with it beautifully!

It does look spooky ... great textures. I love the little well in front.

This is certainly an odd spot that on our watch has endured/enjoyed various guises and complementary owners/tenants. Whilst I've never felt any sense of malevolence here, it's been neither hearth nor home to anyone for long enough to be the house and home it could and should be. It commands a wonderful view from one of the highest spots in the forest. A telling capture.

An after life in a painting. Not so bad, Sadly in your picture the house looks unloved.

Your narratives are really pull me in. Thank you so much! Someday I will make it to France and I will feel as if I have been there with your image and words. Thank you for that.

What a beautiful home this could be! Presently, it has a very eerie quality that wouldn't be pleasing if spending the night there. I do like this photo.

@joansmor Your powers of observation are stll acute Joan... it is indeed rather unloved - see Mrs S's comment above.

Interesting back story, and great shot to go with it.

Lovely subject and the lighting is wonderful.

I love haunted houses and all things spooky! The shot demands the story which is perfect. Wonderful shot my friend.

This has a wonderful vintage feel with great mid gray tones. Nice light and shadow; the lower right and lower left corners shadows make one feel that an old classic lens with vignetting was used, adds to classic nature of this photo. What in camera settings are you using on most of your ocoloy shots Richard?

I don't know if it's spookier on black, but it's certainly beautiful on black! Nice one.

@tosee I was standing in the garden (and got shouted at by the owner who was standing by the open 3rd floor window) beneath two large trees which account for the shadows in the foreground of this image. In-camera settings: Br; H tone +1; S tone +2; Sharp +1; NR -1; DR Auto.

That has to be haunted!

@s4sayer @vignouse What a shame that it is not cared for , like the story and the portrait standing in the hall...

Lovely old house. I wonder at how haunted it is

That's a spooktacular story. Mrs S is quite the story teller as well. It does look rundown and unloved, do you think the owner does it for effect? Wonderful capture, love the history as well.

Perhaps you could get a photo of Mme Zaeppfel during one of her next appearances. That would be a great capture.

I does look rather neglected and in need of a little TLC, as does the well which looks like it may fall over any minute.

Fascinating! Next time I'm in the area... :-) I'll have to book a room.

This project of yours is truly inspiring. One should try an OCOLOSomething (for the time being I'm more on the one-day side, actually!) I would fav almost all the pictures, they tell a lot, not only on technique. Chapeau!

j'adore cet endroit, j'ai habité tout prêt il y a quelques années. j'ai beaucoup de souvenirs là-bas. Ta photo met en évidence l'ampleur des travaux à réaliser! je l'aime bien.
