July 14 in France is Bastille Bay, the anniversary of the French Revolution which took place in 1789. Most towns and many villages celebrate the event with a fireworks display either on the eve or on the day itself. Albeit that Paimpont is a small village, each year we have a spectacular fireworks display on the esplanade in front of Paimpont Abbey which attracts several thousand visitors.
This image of a small boy sitting on his grandfather's shoulders breaks every rule in the book but, for me, it captures the magic and atmosphere of the event perfectly... so it's my post for today.
As usual, the image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my profile.
As this was taken in the black dark, it views best on black.
I just love this little boy...patiently waiting for the summer version of Christmas. Although he knows that Santa comes through the skies on his sleigh at Christmas, he knows that the sky will light up with myriads of colours and designs. His twin brother, installed in parallel on a male relative's shoulders, was alongside. This simple pleasure gave me much more pleasure than the fireworks. May it ever be thus.
