Many (most?) of the towns in Brittany are at least two to three hundred years old and some considerably older. They have, of course, changed with the times in order to survive and so it is with the adjacent town of Mauron that I took a stroll through today. The main street is lined with modern shop-fronts but occasionally two otherwise adjacent shops are separated by a pair of stout wooden gates, resolutely closed.
Today however, alerted by a white cat which chased across the road in front of me and then promptly disappeared, I noticed that one of a pair of these gates was slightly ajar. I peered through knowing exactly what I was going to see and, sure enough, I was immediately transported back in time to a medieval courtyard that won't have changed much in three or four hundred years.
I love these little monuments to the permanence and durability of human life and civilisation.
As usual, the image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my profile.
Oh I missed this one, Richard... a subject after my own heart as well! You have carefully made sure we can see detail in all of it... unlike some of us!
