OCOLOY Day 297: Whitby - the inner harbour. by vignouse

OCOLOY Day 297: Whitby - the inner harbour.

This is the inner harbour in the North Yorkshire coastal town of Whitby, photographed from the life-boat station.

As usual, the image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my profile.

The shadow detail shows up better when viewed on black.
Looks as if the tide comes right up to the buildings in this small harbour! The town had great significance if I remember rightly!

Looks like you've got true white and true black in that. Nice!

Autumn glimmers + a cabin cruiser making waves with yachts = an atmospheric shot.

I like this a lot but still would love to see this one in color.

@essiesue Thanks, as always, for your comments Sue... sorry, I can't oblige with a colour photo as this was b&w straight from the camera.

This is really wonderful. I think if you were processing there is very little to do. Maybe add a little more drama to the clouds.

This is lovely.. nice composition and i especially like the balancing bright areas.. building and boat/water.

Really like how you 'placed' the angle of the dock to be in the middle of the rise of the bridge, and of course the tones and everything else. Fav!

A wonderful B&W!

Also absolutely deserving a FAV for the B&W composition. A different tonal value on each of the four frame borders. Did you search long for it? Fav.

This is quite lovely.

I appreciated B&W photos for the fact they allow the details of the objects to be more viewable. Color is so often a distraction, but in b&w we can appreciate shapes, shadows and designs much better.

You never disappoint with your composition, wonderfully done!

@frankhymus Not long Frank: I saw the overall scene and then composed the image using the EVF which makes the job easy as you can see exactly what the final result will be... it's quicker and more accurate than 'chimping' for me, but YMMD of course.
