Yesterday I had a trip out to Sanctuary Mountain, with @nickspicsnz. It's a reserve surrounded by a predator proof fence, enabling our more vulnerable species of birds to survive. This is a kaka, one of New Zealand's native parrots. Despite the bright red breasts, they are well camouflaged in the forest canopy, you hear them before seeing them.
Oh wow, what a beautiful creature and a fantastic capture of him. Your detail and comp and his colors!!! I totally can see how it's camouflaged. I don't think I'd be able to spot him. He's gorgeous.
So beautiful! On my NZ trip many years ago we were walking through a reserve on Stuart island and as I looked down at my camera a Kaka flew over my head touching my hair as he flew by. I never saw it and unfortunately no one got a photo of the fly past!
