Cathedral Caves

On to the Catlins. This is Cathedral Cave. Had to time our arrival for low tide. Still had to paddle through water to enter the caves.
This is so impressive.

This is beautiful. I have been to Cathedral Cove on the North Island which is very similar and at first glance I thought that was where this photo was. I long to return to New Zealand for a longer visit when COVID restrictions finally end. It is so scenic there.

@cdcook48 I’m very familiar with Cathedral cove as I live on the North Island. The South islands version is much bigger and deeper, with a connecting passage through to another cave. It’s only accessible at low tide. Well worth the $10 you have to pay the Maori wardens to pass through their land. The bush walk down through the forest is pristine. I do hope things will return to “normal”. We’re missing the tourists.
