Hooray you did it! You started on February 1 and thought you'd never be able to shoot 28 black and white photos, but you did! So now it's time to show them off. Post your monthly view in the discussion thread below. I quickly took a shot of mine off the computer and it's awful! I'll make a better version tomorrow.
Thanks for the challenge Ann - I've so enjoyed it and learnt so much! Not one to normally take b&w shots or convert them, I shall definitely be doing more in the future! Great fun.
I've really enjoyed the month @olivetreeann - huge thanks for putting it all together and your guidance through the book (and especially your example images!). I'm definitely inspired to do more B&W now.
When did the 14th shift to the left in the calendar view of February? This year the 16th should have been the Flash of Red. Then all of these lovely calendar views would look even more striking.
well done ann on facilitating this excellent outcome for flash of red. so many wonderful captures, and the pops of red really stand out. will hope to have a go next year :)
@olivetreeann Ann, I'm afraid I was a partypooper - as I'm not a great fan of selective colour I stuck to my habitual B&W but a big thank you for helping a lot more folk explore the pleasures of going back to photography's roots.
@suesouthwood@kiwinanna@Cherrill I just take a screenshot (PrtScrn key) and paste into MS Paint (totally lazy way I know, probably much more sophisticated ways to do it but this works for me if it's just for a calendar view!) Then you can crop, add text etc.
I did mine on a iPad and a desktop Mac and for them you can take the screenshot, desktop is control, shift and 3 held down together, iPad is home button and power button held down together, then in photos you can crop and edit, but to get it for here, I think you have to upload it to an album to get the code to make it show up here, that code is under the little forward arrow by the icons for editing etc
A huge thank you to you Ann @olivetreeann for organizing the flash of red February 2017, for the enormous amount of work you did in the summary of the book and making it a fun challenge for us. Thanks a million.
@olivetreeann Here is mine. Thank you so much for organising this. I have really enjoyed it and as I already loved B&W helped me get a good start into the year. It has made me look at things differently and also take as many opportunities as I can to get a photo. I am looking forward to a new challenge.
@m2016 Your calendar looks great Mel! (Love the moon shot!!) I'm glad to have inspired you to do more too.
@primitiveprobe Excellent calendar view Andreas! The 14th moves through each week day from year to year as do all the other dates. I always debate with myself whether or not to choose the 14th (because of the red) or the exact center of the month (this year the 16th). In the end Valentine's Day usually wins out- but it's always up to each person as to where they want to place it- and some even exchange the color. The first year I did Flash of Red the 14th fell in the center- so it's remained that way ever since. But there is always room for individualism on 365 and I don't mind when people do their own adaptations. (see @pandorasecho Dixie's shot for one where the date was moved)
@vignouse Thank you Richard! I certainly wouldn't call you a party-pooper! You stayed true to your aesthetic and that's fine with me! Thank you so much for joining in!
@suesouthwood My apologies Sue- I am not really sure how to get the calendar view into picture format- which is why I usually end up taking a picture of it. Several folks have tried to explain the process to me, but my computer never seems to do what they say will happen when I follow their directions. Give Mel's instructions a try. (As you can see in the thread I ended up making a collage.
@teachntravel Thank you Julie! Great calendar! You didn't miss much by not having the book. For the price it was ok but I'd recommend the books from previous years before this one.
@pandorasecho Excellent calendar Dixie! And thanks for posting a "how to" post on showing your calendar view.
@mona65 You're welcome Mona! It was my pleasure. Great job on the calendar!
@carolineb7 Excellent calendar Caroline! I'm glad you enjoyed taking part.
@pamknowler You're welcome Pam! I love how your Splash of Red is really splashing!!
@mandygravil You are welcome Mandy! One of the best aspects of this challenge is the end of the month when everyone posts their calendar shots and posts the effects this challenge has had on their project. Great calendar!
Here is my February calendar. All b&w apart from 14th for Flash of Red, and also the 3rd, which was the end of Year 1 and I had to add some colour there! Thanks so much Ann for hosting this challenge. It certainly has been a challenge, but I have enjoyed it and learnt a lot. I will definitely be using more b&w in the future, and hopefully in a constructive way.
Thank you Ann for everything you did to organize and coordinate this, especially the great weekly discussion and supporting images. If you ever do decide to publish a book on how to take great b&w photos, I'll definitely buy a copy!
@aecasey Excellent calendar view April! Strawberries are one of my favorite fruits- so they really popped out for me!
@primitiveprobe No problem Andreas! Now you'll know what to do next year!
@suesouthwood Great job Sue! We're all learning here and I'm glad this challenged stretched you in a good way. I'll be looking forward to more of your black and whites!
@hvansteenburgh Thank you Heather! I'm glad you enjoyed the challenge- and yes I've begun an outline on the more creative aspects of black and white composition- I've been told that's my forte! Great calendar view by the way.
@tibles You are more than welcome Riikka! And do keep up with the black and white. You have a good eye for it and the calendar view shows it.
@helenhall I just jumped over to view your calendar and when I came back it was here! You've done a great job this month Helen- the calendar view looks really good. And I love your itty bitty flash of red!
@olivetreeann Thank you so much for this incredible challenge! As this is my first year in 365, I was so glad to have participated. You were so well organized, and the advice you gave throughout was incredibly useful for the novice photographer in me! Thanks again! Here is my screenshot for Flash of Red 2017!
@olivetreeann many heartfelt thanks for hosting this challenge Ann. your guidance was impeccable and so very helpful.. it really was a challenge and i look forward to the next one..
@lilacphotography You're welcome Kimberly! LOL this challenge always steps up my game on time management- so I guess the benefit is looking like I'm really organized! I'm glad you enjoyed the challenge, welcome to 365 and your calendar looks great!
@randystreat You're welcome Kathy! I've enjoyed seeing your black and white shots each day and appreciate your enthusiastic participation!
@homeschoolmom Thanks Lisa and congrats on conquering the screen shot- something I've yet to do! (I don't have Photoshop) The calendar looks great!
@cristinaledesma33 You're welcome Christina! I love the way you used patterns, lines and textures throughout the month. Excellent calendar view!
@jorlam You're welcome Jorlam! I'm glad you enjoyed taking part and that you're looking forward to the next one! But don't let that stop you from shooting a black and white shot every now and then while you're waiting (o:
@alia_801 Thanks Allie- loved that pop of red! It was one of my favorites.
@linnypinny You're welcome Lin! Your calendar is awesome. I love the combo of nostalgic family treasures and the signs. The daffodil is a great ending (one of my favorite flowers!).
Although I didn't complete the challenge (missed getting out and shooting in the middle of the month), I enjoyed the challenge and learned a lot. Thank you for allowing me to join in the learning. There is some awesome photography posted. Very inspiring.
@joysabin Some people make a collage of their calendar in their photo-processing programs. I think most people use Photo Shop for that. I did mine in Ribbet which is an on-line site. Other folks have a way to save the screen shot of their calendar and post that way (which I've never been able to do for some reason!). See @m2016 and @pandorasecho comments above for further explanation there.
@salza Great calendar Sally! It has your signatures shots through and through!
@ncnewfiegirl No problem Josie! As long as you enjoyed it and got something out of it, it served its purpose. I never treat 365 like a homework assignment. Whatever works for the day is good- and it should always be fun. I'm glad you learned a lot from the challenge- and now you can practice what you've learned at any time.
@bizziebeeme Great calendar Loopy-Lou! Love that center shot!
@m2016 Thanks for the advice - I learnt a new skill! @olivetreeann Thanks so much for organising and sharing so much valuable information this month. Much appreciated. Its been a blast again!
I was not sure if I was going to be able to stick to the month long commitment, but I surprised myself and did it! It was a great way to push myself and learn new things. Thanks so much for hosting this year Ann.
I'm really happy with the first part of my month, but as I got busier with the show I'm accompanying I got a lot sloppier with my 365 project. Ah well. There's always next year! Thanks for organizing this!
