We’ve come to the end of our month of black and white and now it’s time to look at our achievement! You have the option to finish the month with a calendar view of your project (February 28) or to finish out the 28th with the final week’s regular theme and then post the calendar in March. If you haven’t done this before the following instructions are based on how it works on my laptop. You may have to adapt the terminology to your machine if it’s different than mine (i. e. Windows vs. Mac) but the principles/process will basically remain the same.
Go to your latest picture in your project and click on the number below it. This will pull up your monthly calendar. Click on the 3 dots next to the URL bar (or whatever part of your home screen gives you “page options”). Select the icon of scissors and paper (or the words “Take a Screen Shot”). A see-through template or something similar will appear over your screen. Drag the corners to cover the portion of the screen you want to capture (i. e. your calendar and your name). Select the “Download” button to move the image into your computer and save it. You will then be able to edit the picture further if you’d like to, or you can now post it in your project just like you would post a picture.
And don’t forget to show it off here in the discussion thread too! It’s been exciting to host yet another year of Flash of Red. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
Thanks April, this sounds too good to be true. I tried the method you mentioned, (on windows) I have none of those options when clicking on the three dots. No scissors or take a screen shot. The only way I can take a screen shot and have everything in it, is on my cell. It must be my pc settings :-( Ps, I love your calendar.
@ludwigsdiana on my Windows pc I click the three dots, then I reduce the size to 80% to fit it on, then I press Print Screen on the keyboard and then I paste into Paint, crop and add text.
Thanks for this Anne, and for hosting FOR again this year. I'm a Windows user and I have a Snipping Tool on my PC. (I don't know if Mac users have this too.) Do a search to see if you have it? Using this I can easily create and save a jpeg of the calendar view which can be taken into PS, or other editing programme, for the words, border, etc. to be put on it.
@ludwigsdiana - click on the photo # of your current photo and your calendar month will appear. reduce your screen (click on the three vertical dots on the far right of the URL) so that the whole calendar month is visible. press the key on the upper part of your keyboard that says "PrtScr". then open your Paint 3D program and open a new file (or document). right click and click "paste" and the screen shot will appear (or Ctrl/V results in the same) . then you can edit.
you will find your Paint 3D program by clicking on the Start button of your screen, then scroll to letter P.
Thank you Ann for all you have done to make this another successful Flash of Red year! I really appreciate all the effort you put into it for all of us and all the time it takes for you to do that! ♥
@nickspicsnz@summerfield Thanks for the additional information! I just don't know enough about other computers to include more options- so I'm glad you put in yours!
@nickspicsnz - i don't know when, but i keep getting a message whenever my laptop is updated saying that the snipping tool will be only available with the Paint 3D program after some date this year. it might have been delayed like they did the flash player before it was totally replaced by something. i have my snipping tool on my task bar so i would know i still have it or when it's actually taken off.
i don't know why the tech people couldn't leave things alone. they can invent things, fine, but don't make old people get used to something then take it away! 😂
Try finding the snipping tool by typing in the search box on the tool bar. Sometimes they 'hide' the programs. And you can then right click on the icon on the toolbar and select pin to taskbar. Thus you will not have to search for it every time.
PS: They take things away when they see those things really work. They never take away something that is faulty.
@monikozi oh do true about what they keep!! Also they back up and update just as I'm working on something important and whole system grinds to a juddering snail pace!!!
I've found Snip and Sketch on the A-Z menu from my Windows "Start" button and have added it to my task bar so I can try it out. I also have Paint 3D as well as ordinary Paint.
@ludwigsdiana - haha! i don't about the star bit, and i'm equally an old dog. i refuse to learn new tricks, but i have to as i still work. when our IT would replace any function that i find is more useful to me, i lie and tell them not to as my boss (who is a big shot in the office) always have tasks for me that require whatever function it is i don't want gone.
Thanks Ann for once again hosting this challenge. It's so often very challenging helps me grow in my skills as a result. This discussion helps me realize how different the Mac vs Windows computers can be.
@randystreat You're welcome Kathy- and I knew that my computer was going to be different from others so I'm glad that pros like Vikki have added their knowledge and expertise here!
Thank you Katrina, Gerry, Kathy, 4ky, Merrelyn, Lou Ann, Terri, Marilyn, Alison, Mona, Liz, and Milanie! This is the fun part- seeing everyone's calendar and all those little pops of red!
How do I post it here? I tried copying from my project and pasting here but it only comes up with a long url address. Does that convert to the image once I post it?
@k9photo After you upload your calendar photo. Find the box that says Photo Details. Click the line that says sizes. Then scroll down to Main and select the second link.
Thank you Ann! I look forward to February and appreciate all the hard work you put into making it challenging and educational! It’s wonderful to view everyone’s hard work and beautiful calendars.
Wow!! So many awesome calendars here- it just touches my heart to see so many people enjoying the month and glowing with pride over the results here. Thanks to all for joining in and making it so much fun to put it all together.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond - try this method.
newer computers and laptops wouldn't have the "snip" function as i think it is now integrated with the Paint 3D program.

Hopefully the feedback from Vikki and Nick will help you with your calendar view. I only know how to do it on my computer!
