We made our cakes weeks ago and have fed them twice. The best mince pies I've ever had were from Chatsworth Farm shop. They were made on site and piled up on trays ready to be bought. Sadly consumerism caught up and they are now boxed and pre-prepared and not anywhere near as good. You're right though now some of the best are from supermarkets.
I am hopeless at making mince pies. Always buy them from the supermarket. Have got my dried fruit soaking up brandy ready to make the cake on Wednesday (the fruit is tasting pretty good)
@suesouthwood i soak much more fruit than is necessary for St Delia's cake, it needs to be soaked for at least a week, and I eat loadds of it in that time! @johnsutton shame about the boxing, but not every washes thier hands after visiting a loo or animal petting place! @megpicatilly my mum said for every mince pie eaten before Christmas is a day's happiness afterwards. I'm up to day 112 of happiness for 2018!! ps did u see th tags I used!!!!
