Drinking straws are apparantly amongst the most abundant items of single use plastic found in our seas. No idea how old these straws are, think kids were still at school??
This started out as a motion shot and ended up with the straws trapped in the lid making a pretty reflection, ideal for a macro shot and there's a straw challenge taking place.

Beautiful color shot. I have heard the same thing about straws, but can't imagine how they end up in the ocean. Such a shame, since straws are such useful items.
Capturing the colours in the lid is good to see. I wonder too how straws get into the sea @homeschoolmom . And plastic bags! Nobody would throw them in surely!
Single use plastic items have become such a huge environmental problem. I was watching a documentary on waste last night. They quoted figures of 1 tonne of single use plastic waste generated every minute by Australian households - very scary.
@merrelyn It's shocking. ON TV a while back they showed the equivalent plastic from a seagull's stomoch and us, it filled a coffee table!! @amyk thank you @joysabin so true, and this one was soooooooooo dusty @Dawn thank you (love your new photo of you btw!) @maggiemae and cotton buds too! @homeschoolmom try for paper ones but they go so soggy!!
Very pretty shot though. Funny how we always used paper as a kid and then plastic was supposed to save all the trees. Now apparently it is out of favour and tree demolishing is back in. Fashions in politics, eh?
@amyk thank you
