Horsesands Fort

Still flat calm, but we didn't bother to race today as had to be in harbour before the tide fell.

We did race yesterday in similar conditions for four hours and fifty six minutes and we beat the favourites by 10 minutes on handicap.

The Solent has a number of Palmerston's Forts which are quite impressive.
Goodness what a busy day you had, congrats! Great half and half.

nice half and half shot - it looks really flat calm - well done for winning your races yesterday - albeit on handicap

Would love to see this. Looks like a visit to Portsmouth is due this summer.

Hi Jackie, for your challenge how about you take a photograph/photographs where the main feature is water - it's up to you how you do it - puddle shot/big landscape/ water crown/drips, whatever - you decide. Just try to make it something that you wouldn't normally attempt.

@salza you're a mind reader Sally!! I've never done puddle shots, and as rain is here now, was thinking about how to do puddles. So that's what I'll do. I think.

@billyboy let me know when you come south! Won't see this though, it's nearer to isle of wight!
@jacqbb thank you
@shannejw handicaps there to level the playing field ( sailing seas??!) We had fun
@ludwigsdiana sitting on a boat in calm seas is so mindful. Glad you like this, thank you

Yeah, I sailed as a kid - my parents really sail - enough to represent the UK in the Europeans in Fireballs a few times which gave us holidays abroad, now windsurfers and Drascombes. My father also navigates so got a week on various boats abroad having navigated them across the Channel. I've sailed Mirrors,Toppers among other dinghies and crewed for fun, not heavy enough to sail a Laser.

Sounds like great fun.

@shannejw dinghies too unstable for me, and bum too close to the water!!! I like a kettle near me too

they raced a Drascombe as part of the Old Gaffers Race, and won, until the rules changed to prevent Drascombes from taking part.

Interesting history, hadn’t heard of these forts.

I like the enormity of the fort against the water and the hazy view in the distance.

What Kathy said and great half & half

These things always scare me when I am sailing!!
