American White Pelican by aecasey

American White Pelican

Bit of a documentary image. Earlier this month I passed this pasture pond and it was covered with pelicans. Unfortunately, I had chosen not to carry my camera that day. So, today when I saw these two white birds I stopped. This is severely cropped, but, sure enough, they are American White Pelicans migrating through. I have never seen these birds in our area before, and the nearby North Platte National Wildlife Refuge lists them as uncommon at the Refuge. I do wish I'd had a bigger zoom, but at least I had my camera this time and I now have an addition to watch for during next year's spring migration.
I like pelicans, but there aren’t any here. Interesting comment

Nice capture!! They would stage a fly in here and then disappear! We seem to be on there migration path most years
