A Rose, Is A Rose, Is a....

Watercolors are tough but I am happy with this one. It could be better but it aso could be so much worse. Please tell me how to make it better
@grammyn
the drops on the rose are perfectly done. in fact i just had an epiphany on the droplets on the flower itself. i've been wracking my brain how to show them without looking like some plant disease and still be seen as drops. you inspired me to take the painting back to the drawing board and tinker with it some more. 🤣 aces!

I Just love it. I am feeling that I need to practice water droplets.

Tip my hat to those droplets, especially since it's watercolour!
The left hand leaf pointing up lacks a bit of rounding at the bottom - as the right hand has. But the same left hand leaf has beautiful spikes on the edge. The stem is beautifully done, with that red tint. You could have widened a bit the wider part of the stem, below the leaves, where the bloom starts. It seems to end too abruptly on the right hand, near the dropping right leaf.
I say these because you asked. Just mind that correcting watercolour is not really possible. Only if you redo this :D
But, I would be proud of this if it were mine. I think the colours are so true and that the black background was a really good choice. It really makes the rose pop out. It is beautiful.

Katy, I don't want to hear any more devaluating talk from you to you! This really is promising and you can do it! There are some beautiful strokes there: the leaves are my favourite, besides the droplets.
Yes, I do revisit photos and ponder over them. Especially when I am impressed.

@grammyn Katy Katy Katy!! This is so striking, because you've made it low key and those droplets!! They're soooo realistic, can see them slowly falling down that bud!!

@summerfield that is really nice of you! I find it strange that I could inspire YOU!
@wakelys thank you so much Susan. I still have a lot fo porctice to do with them too
@monikozi I can't tell you how much I appreciate your suggestions! Every one of them was spot on. Sometimes I don't see until someone points it out to me and you have a great eye for those details! I am so glad you told me what to fix. were it oils I would go back and fix them but with watercolor those flaws will just have to stay. I am afraid I might not be able to improve it! Thank you so much for the feedback!
@30pics4jackiesdiamond Well for heaven's sake! Such enthusiasm! It means a lot to me!

Yes, Katy, watercolour can not be fixed, the wai oils or acrylics can. But the bright side is that you can keep it as it is and revisit it later on. And see where you are.
About the details one misses, it is natural. It happens to everyone.
I can hardly wait to see what comes next!
