I painted this about two weeks ago because I have been feeling guilty about not producing recently. Cold winter months seem more ideal to me for spending an afternoon with paper and paints and we just aren't having that right now.
This is an attempt after the one Vikki painted in August and Monika did in July. I thought it turned out better than it could have but less than I wanted it too. I can see I have trouble with proportions and dimensions which is probably because I just free hand everything instead of measuring and drawing first. Thanks for your honest appraisal in advance!
@grammyn Ooohhh.... the first thing I noticed is the looseness. Which is something I can not achieve (perhaps not practicing is one reason). Don't be tempted into measuring and realism. You can employ photography in that respect. (I know I should follow my own advice). You have the courage to embrace and accept woopsies. And that is SOOOO important. Those woopsies give the character.
I am not saying it is perfect, mind you! I just say that I love how this turned out. The bits of shading, the brick texture, the windows... I like it how you created the white window frames by negative painting. That is awesome.
The only line that is a little off for me is the left hand line above the door. You interpretation gives the house a quirky charm and I really like it. Looking forward to more.
if i painted without measuring, it would look so bad i would not show it to anyone. believe me, my watercolour book is full of that, and i have quite a few canvases that i won't even look at. your version has charm, it has character, as already been said. big ACES to you. @grammyn
@kjarn I appreciate your positive comments especially about the trees, Kathy thank you. @30pics4jackiesdiamond I did enjoy painting this and I love your suggestion of more shading to give the feeling of depth. Thank you for that input. @monikozi your positive support always is so uplifting!. You have a way of seeing things in a positive light and accenting that which is so encouraging! The fact that you noticed the negative painting when I didn’t even know that is what I was doing is very impressive! You are very good at assessing strengths and weaknesses in art! @wakelys how very generous of you to be so positive about this! I really appreciate it, Sue. @randystreat LOL! That makes me think of Bob Ross. I don’t have near his talent! @summerfield maybe I just have no shame! This could have been a lot better for sure but you are so kind to say those nice things. Thank you so much dear friend.

I wonder if perhaps more shading around the windows edges might give a feeling depth.
The wonkiness gives the house character and style.
Hope you enjoyed painting this!
