I moved a Bluebird feeder close to the kitchen window for my Carolina Wren couple. They're curious and brave enough to go inside and fly out of this feeder for peanuts and dried mealworms. The squirrels so far had not managed to lift the lid, well, until this afternoon. One gray handily manipulated the green wire I had rigged up to try to keep them out and lifted the lid. One of the wrens watched the whole thing and did manage to slip in for a peanut before the squirrel came back. I've re-adjusted the wire, but I don't expect it to keep the big gray bird out for long.
For the Record,
This day came in with snow and rain showers and freezing temps.
I retired from public school teaching after happily spending twenty eight years playing in Kindergarten. Now I fill my days watching cat antics, taking endless...
I love the one that he is passing food out the hole to feed himself. I have two feeders from Wild Birds Unlimited that are squirrel proof but it all depends on where you set it up. I had to have mine away from trees so they couldn't sit on the tree and overcome the effect of their weight on the feeder. I would suggest if you have a Wild Birds Unlimited store that you talk to them. It is fun watching them try to break into my feeder and fall down every time.
@joansmor We shop at one. The other feeders are finally set up in a way that they can't jump, fly or break in, but they had ignored this one until today. The wrens love it.
