This afternoon we were joined by Melody's Mom and Dad as we took in a harp concert at the McDougall United Church in downtown Edmonton. I did take a shot of the harpest but it ended up out of focus so I did not use that one. She teaches at the Alberta College which is next door to the church.
It was a wonderful concert followed by a light snack afterwards
The church itself was built in 1909 at a cost of $85,000.The church seats 2500 people. The taller of the two towers on the outside is the bell tower.
Along with being a church it was the first home for the Edmonton Symphony Ochestra
It was built as McDougall Methodist Church which was founded by the Rev. George M McDougall in 1873. The first building was a wood frame church which today is located in Fort Edmonton Park
that's a massive church if it seats 2500 - we have only 3 or 4 churches locally that can seat more than 300 hundred - that's in the whole area and are the ones used for confirmations and other big services
I love each of these shots individually and together. I like that you showed how the church is in the city by including the tall building behind it and I love the interior! The church we were married in had a balcony on 3 sides and I loved that. Looks like this one does, too??
@sunnygreenwood That is so true Anne. Interestingly enough though the Presbyterian Church which is just over a few blocks was built around the same time and is just as large
