For those of you who have been following me you have most likely discovered my interest in local history and architecture. So I have decided to do a short series entitled Then and Now
Since the early 1900's there has been a bank on the southeast corner of Jasper Avenue and 101 Street. The early photo is from 1914 and shows the Bank of North America. This was taken over by the Bank of Montreal which was housed in the newer building. It has been vacant for sometime and as you can now see has been demolished.
Developers are planning on a new retail/office complex on this spot and this corner will be home to the parkade for that facility
Fantastic old and new but do they really have to do this so much. I am sad to see the old be demolished so much of the time to build something new that has no character, but modern wins out and I guess has to.
@bkbinthecity That is too bad to hear. To see so much in photo that is no longer here is sad. My husband and I drove in an area that we grew up in and moved away from and all the character has gone away and been replaced with new and not such attractive places. Also the trees that lined that particular drive got diseased after so many years and had to be taken down. Sad to see.
and thanks for the interesting story
