Court is in Session by bkbinthecity

Court is in Session

Well I thought today was a good time to go back to a Then and Now photo. In 1912 Edmonton's first courthouse opened in the heart of the city. It was a classic style building for a courthouse and served Edmonton for 60 years.
The new courthouse opened on this day in 1972 and as you can see the architect used a completely different style for this building. It is located a couple of blocks east of where the original one stood.
A couple of years later Edmonton Centre Shopping Centre opened its doors on the site of the original courthouse
Great collage

new is cool, but old is classic, I love classic
June 27th, 2012
Lovely now and then photos!
June 27th, 2012
Awesome comparison collage! I much prefer the 1912 building. They just don't build them like they used to.
June 27th, 2012
Great shots of the two of them
June 27th, 2012
Yes classic one.....nice collage of this court building....nice architectural design.....

Nice collage!
June 27th, 2012
How sad, I often see ugly building's like this in London, why can't they make them like they used to, 60's and 70's architects have a lot to answer for.
June 27th, 2012
So did they knock that beautiful building down? You say a shopping centre has opened on the site of the old court.................that would be so sad if they did, it is a beautiful building. I dare say in years to come the new one will be considered of its time and it is very 70's :0)
June 27th, 2012
Its a shame about the 1912 photo building being converted this Is where a building from the 1912 photo should have been listed. Gerry .
June 27th, 2012
great pity to get rid of the old.
June 27th, 2012
I love that old photo. Nice composition!
June 27th, 2012
I really like the design of this collage. It's interesting to see the two discernibly different styles of architecture, but I much prefer the old classic style. Lovely collage!
June 27th, 2012
Love your collage - I've got to go with everyone else - the old building is really a classic!
June 27th, 2012
Love the collage. what a neat building
June 27th, 2012
Great collage to show the difference in the two buildings!
June 27th, 2012
This is a great collage! The contrast of architecture is featured really well in it and the graphics tie it all together with their retro colors. I love the old cars in the 1912 shot!
June 27th, 2012
cool collage ...i like the old one better!
June 27th, 2012
Well this is a wonderful before/after shot.
June 27th, 2012
I like the old better. Progress...oh well. Wonderful shot.
June 27th, 2012
I like the way it looked before! I love old buildings but where I live, there is no history left in this town...It has all been tore down for the sake of improvement (so they say). Love the "then and now" selection!
June 27th, 2012
Amy
Love this collage. Love your shot of the new building, but I think the old building is beautiful.
June 27th, 2012
Fantastic idea for a collage. Great job.
June 27th, 2012
I love before and after photos ... great collage. That said, the new one isn't as beautiful as that wonderful old architecture. Well, that is just my humble opinion. :)
June 27th, 2012
oy, look at you with a fancy collage today. that is very nice and the shot is actually very nice.
June 27th, 2012

June 27th, 2012

June 27th, 2012
Isn't it a shame they tore the old one down, great comparison
June 28th, 2012
Does that mean they tore down the original courthouse and built a shopping centre??? I like the looks of the new one but the old had style too.
June 28th, 2012
Nice comparison.
June 28th, 2012
Nice comparison, 100 years apart. I like your collage.

@jdr4690 Thanks Rob
June 28th, 2012
@johnnyfrs In this case the architect asked for input into the design and no one came forward with any suggestions so this is what he went with
June 28th, 2012
@claireuk Yes they did tear down the old courthouse to build the shopping centre
June 28th, 2012
@gerry Yes it would have been nice if they had saved it.

Waaaay too cool! Old buildings and edifices are wonderfully appealing to me; the vintage photo is great. How very clever of you to make a "then and now." Love it! Take care, Les

July 4th, 2012
Nice collage - I'm sure the new must be a very functional building, but I prefer the classic of 1912!
July 6th, 2012
@if1 Yes it is but the style is so much better in the old one
July 7th, 2012
