Going through Those old photos I came across this postcard. This is Central Pentecostal Tabernacle. This is the church that I was dedicated in as a baby. A couple of years later Melody was also dedicated here as a baby by the same pastor. This building seated 1000 people. Interestingly enough from 1989-1993 Melody and I found ourselves back here as the Bible College we attended used this building as part of its facility. Sadly today the building is no longer standing. It was sold and the new owners plans to build condos fell through and today there is a big empty lot
So sad! But the memories are far more important than the building and thankfully you have this post card to keep them alive. How special that you both grew up in this church!
What a great story! Sad about the building. Our old church almost was replaced with townhouses. Eventually, the neighborhood won out and a new church bought it.
Very striking building -- I'll bet it was really forward-thinking and modern for it's time. And it's such a nice story, Brian, about your connection to is as well as Melody's. So sorry the building is no longer there.
Very intriguing design on the building. It actually looks as though it could be a newer construction today. If it had capacity for 1000 people, they surely could have used it for something other than a spot for more condos????
Interesting story. It's sadly reminiscent of my husband and my story. Only in our case, we planted a church which we pastored for twenty years. Then passed it on to another pastor six years ago as we switched careers. The church since lost 80% of its members. :(
