Last night Melody and I took in a fund raising dinner at the new Hope Adventure Centre. It is located on 80 acres of land north of Edmonton. It is a former boys camp that was built in 1948 and 14 years ago was such down. A couple of years ago a friend of ours was asked to take over the camp to see if something could be done with it..Today under the direction of some amazing people the camp is being renovated and they hope to soon open up once again.
The camp will be run as a place of hope for foster kids. A place where they can come and learn how important they really are and the fact that they have a great future ahead of them.
These are a couple of the buildings that will soon be worked on and receive a whole new face lift.
It was a wonderful evening and I am sure that we will be out there again sometime in the future once it is up and running
.
That is just fantastic!!! Love this comp and your POV. It is so nice to hear of the good that is being done for the well being of young children!!! It's been an awful week with the news, and this is very refreshing! FAV.
What a fabulous endeavor -- a retreat for foster kids. I bet this place will be absolutely beautiful when rehabbed.. It definitely looks like it has the "bones" for it. Beautiful area. Lovely shot.
What a wonderful project - these old cabins look quite similar to some I went to camp in about that same era. What a great future they have ahead of them for some very special children.
It's always great to hear of someone with both vision and compassion that turns those great attributes into a project which many will benefit from. It looks like this will be a great place to give kids a positive message and memories to last a lifetime.
Nice shot. And I'm so glad they are restoring the camp. I wish there had been something like this around when I was in foster care. But I think I turned out all right. With great exception of my mood swings, anxiety, panic attacks, flashbacks, etc. I think the kids that go to the camp will definitely benefit from it.
