I mentioned yesterday that I went for a walk in one of Edmonton's older cemeteries.
I came across this tombstone designed to look like a tree trunk. Upon close examination I discovered it was erected by The Woodsmen of the World.
I have to admit I don't know anything about the organization but I did find the tombstone to be quite unique
What a very cool find! I looked at the photo and at first glance they do look like wood sculptures. You have to really look to see that they aren't. Nice shot.
Woodmen of the World was a group involving all religions to help each member through life. Initially they had a $100.00 fee for these markers to be cast as trees. Interesting history Brian, thank you!
We had a neighbor who worked for Woodsmen of the World, an insurance feature of the organization. This particular man liked to drive through town looking for worn out flags, and then he would offer new replacements free of charge.

Such an interesting and ornate tombstone- I guess for one of their members. An unusual and unique find Brian!
