One Big Family

Well one more picture from the cemetery. Hugh Calder was one of Edmonton's early pioneers. One of the neighbourhoods on the north side of the city is named after him.
In this plot you see two tombstones. The one in the left is that of Hugh Calders first wife who passed away in 1906. The one on the right is that of Hugh Calder and his second wife. As well buried here are the daughter and son-in-law of Hugh and his second wife.
Wow... lots of names on there! Nice image.

Great shot and interesting information.

It really struck me how times have changed since Hugh Calder lived. While many in the early 1800's had first and second marriages it was generally due to the first spouse dying. Now it's a completely different story- and quite varied! Interesting shot.

His first wife died at age 31?! Oh my, just think about that....... Probably had small children who grew up without their Mom.... Think about life expectancy with our generation.... Fascinating shot. Tombstones are so interesting.
