St. Patrick's Day 1928 the new Canadian National Railway Station opened to great fanfare.
This building was 15,000 square feet and could been seen from the Hotel Macdonald four blocks away.
This building featured a two story waiting room with large skylights, a 40 person Dining Room, a smoking room for men and a ladies waiting room.
The upper floor housed the divisional offices.
The station was demolished to make room for the new CN Tower which opened in 1966. Trains continued operating out of the station until the early 1990's
This is an incredible before and after comparison. I do have to ask, if they tore the station down in 1966 and the trains continued to run until 1990, where did you catch the train?
Out with old and in with the new as they say. I guess in the 60's they didn't appreciate the beauty of these old buildings. I'm glad that many of them today are preserved and combined with newer additions to meet the city's needs. Good collage.
