Some of the images from a mad-dash trip into town this morning. The west African ladies, living here, had had their outfits specially made in Nigeria I think it was. Woke up groggy from the cold I caught from Dave on holiday but having slept better, back in my own bed, than I've done for a while. I suddenly felt like going in to see the crowds.
Got on the tube which gradually filled up as the stations passed. Green Park was already full at 9am, and so me and the huge crowds were ushered down Piccadilly towards Hyde Park and the viewing screens. The sheer numbers of people streaming down the streets was truly astonishing.
I didn't want to stay, so at the gridlock as people waited to enter Hyde Park I turned back and walked to Oxford Circus, rather oddly stumbling across the site of Queen Elizabeth's birth place in Bruton Street. Streets and Oxford Circus tube were eerily deserted in contrast to the crowds elsewhere.
Got home to bagels for a late breakfast and watched the impressive state funeral, the procession from the abbey to Wellington Arch and then, after a bath, the committal service. Nobody does pomp and pageantry like us. As I said before I'm not a royal family fan generally, but like many people, I've been affected by the death of this hardworking woman who's been there in so many corners of our everyday lives since most of us were born. Felt very tearful.
My big family birthday Irish holiday has been oddly bookended by the announcement of the Queen's death and her funeral. Felt quite upset on Thursday 8th knowing we were leaving the country the next day, especially as my mum was coming with us and maybe wouldn't be able to follow the news. But possibly not a bad thing in the end. I'll post up the images from the holiday over the next few days.
A beautiful collage nicely reflecting the events of the day - fav! Amazing how many people became involved in the events of the last few days. I was a little dissapointed that the Queen was moved from Edinburgh to London by air rather than the royal train. It would have been nice to say farewell as she passed through York.
Great collage ! We were in London , we booked our travel weeks ago and … I wanted to cancel but my husband thought it would be an experience to be there ..
