HMS Alliance by busylady

HMS Alliance

One more shot from the weekend. This is the submarine we visited during the rainstorms on Sunday. The Alliance was laid down in 1947 and although not used in World War 2, it helps create the atmosphere and conditions on board a submarine of the second world war. I can't imagine having to control all these dials and wheels! We were given a fascinating talk by a very smart and proud gentleman of 79 who was only 18 when he was first posted to the submarine branch of the Royal Navy. It has been used as a memorial and museum ship since 1981.
Wow that is some feat of engineering. Great details.

It looks a monster - not used now obviously. It would have an interesting history!

The stuff in that boat! I once went down into a sub at Oreston Dicks.....quite tight for room I remember! The engineers must know their stuff!
