The lych gate by busylady

The lych gate

We enjoyed another lovely cycle ride around some of the pretty Northamptinshire villages yesterday. This is the very old gate leading to the church at Achurch. I looked up the meaning of lych gate and found that it was originally a covered gate used to shelter the coffin while waiting for a burial service to begin, lych meaning corpse!
It makes a lovely frame and thanks for the info

Nicely framed view. It makes you want to open the gate and stroll down the lane beyond.
