Alfred Lord Tennyson by carole_sandford

Alfred Lord Tennyson

A statue of this poet laureate & his dog reside in the cathedral grounds, at the back of the cathedral. I actually pass by him every day when I am at work.
Apparently one of his lesser known claims to fame, was that he spent a short while in The Victorian prison, today a museum, within in the castle walls, for none payment of his butchers bill! I’m sure it was just a misunderstanding 😉
Watt, who sculpted this glorious statue, had his studio near Guildford and there's a prototype for this there.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond well you live & learn. He was born in Somersby, near Grimsby (not far from the infamous Cleethorpes 😉😉), but I think he spent the rest of his life “ down south” , so maybe that is why it was sculpted in Guildford.

Look up Watts Gallery, Godalming, you'd love the terracotta chapel and the artwork.
