..... at RAF Scampton! A collage of the Reds taking off today. They took off in three waves of three & the tenth one took off alone. The fact that there were ten, my guess was they were on their way somewhere, possibly for a show tomorrow.
@onewing took the picture, bottom right was taken for you. This is the Officers Mess at Scampton. Not used for many years now & as you can see falling into disrepair. I was wondering if you had dined here?
Great collage, I really do miss watching the Red Arrows.
No we never dined at the Officers Mess at Scampton. We were there from 1969-1972 but David wasn't commissioned until 1976. Our first Officers Mess experience was when he was on OCTU at Henlow.
The bottom left picture is interesting though because that was where David worked during our time at Scampton. (Not the tower but ground radio section below the tower).
No Red Arrows when we were there, just Vulcans. We did encounter them a few times since though. They used to come to Valley to practice on occasion and also Akrotiri for a few weeks each year. Hell used to break out in the Mess at Akrotiri, especially if Phantom pilots were there at the same time as the Red Arrows, each trying to outdo each other.
A lovely collage. I used to work in an office next to Norwich airport and the Red Arrows would land there between shows. We’d go running outside to watch them as soon as we heard their engines start up.
