Yomping by carole_sandford

Yomping

Yomp - a Royal Marine's acronym for, Your Own Marching Pace, the word became well known when the classic photograph of the back of a stream of Marines with the last man flying the Union Flag, 'yomping' from Bluff Cove across the islands to battle appeared in newspapers. The Marines, Paras and Gurkhas had to 'yomp' as the air transport that was planned for them to use had been lost when the Atlantic Conveyor was sunk.
We are sure that this depicts that Marine.
Obviously, this image is one from yesterday's visit to bomber Command.
Quite a story behind this statue. Great shadows
