The word today is antique. I was going to do a selfie but that was too obvious. I don't know why but I just could not shoot my antique cup and saucer straight up. So I played with it and enjoyed myself. But you get the picture. How do I know it is an antique. On the bottom of a fair amount of my collection is written "Made in Occupied Japan" Japan was occupied from 1947 to 1952. Anything stamped with that is pretty darn old. My great aunt collected a lot of these after the war. For some reason she wanted my father to have the collection. He gave it to me. I love these old beauties, and like everything else around here I have added to the collection. Mine are more because I love the colors or the maker.
What beautiful flowers. It's odd - if you go the out Animal Welfare League's thrift shop, there are all sorts of china sets for sale. Seems sad that such beautiful pieces have been discarded.
note to self: cathy d is a funny woman; do not drink in front of laptop when viewing her photos. :-) your opening remark almost killed me (in a nice way!). must fav because it gave me such amusement for the day. thanks!
I knew by your first sentence here that you have a great sense of humor & your pictures relay that and the beauty within you!! I'm going to enjoy following you!! :-) Beautiful photo today!
I also thought selfie LOL we are great aren't we?!!(and lucky with our sense of humour!!) love your cup gorgeous colours and a new one to me, made in occupied Japan
@katieannb Thanks Katie. It was blah straight on. @ladykassy46 Thanks, Kathleen. I worked to get a decent reflection. @maggiemae I did balance it! I took it straight up and it was just so so. @paul2782 Thank you, Paul. That was what I was going for. @httpgeffed Thanks, Colleen. One of my favorites. @henrir Thank you, Henri. @justine_x It was a hard time in the world. But that stamp makes something quite a collectors item. @tishpics I was going for not boring! @janets I cup and saucer made in occupied Japan will start at around $35 and go up depending on the shape it is in. I have china and never use it as it is old and not dishwasher safe. Nobody wants to wash it! @summerfield I always work for the laughs! Hope the computer is OK!
Thanks for the fav. @jesperani Thank you. Just amusing myself. @aurorajane I kept playing with lenses and always go back to the macro and what it will accomplish. @whiteswan Thank you Cheryl. I am a firm believer in laughter. @filsie65 We were trying to remember how old something has to be before it qualifies to be an antique. I qualify. @yonnie That same wave length again, Yvonne. @grammyn Thank you, ma'am. @sugarmuser I have some real beauties. Thanks, Sharon. @carolmw Thank you, Carol. @fannyb You have to keep laughing! The alternative is no fun. @psychographer My father always said he avoided wrinkles because he used Preparation H on his face. @timandelke Thank you Elke. Can't wait for flowers.
You are too funny Cathy- and you are not an antique!! On the other hand your lovely cup is quite valuable. My friend Judy (who I clean for) has taught me a lot about Depression glass and vintage china. Of course this set is all the more precious because of your family story- but yes, this antique is something worth hanging on to and better to turn it topsy-turvy in a photo than in real life!
