I have been watching the feeders like crazy in this weather. We hit -8 last night before I fell asleep. I'm worried that the birds will survive this extreme cold.
This fellow was right below my field of vision perched on the fence that keeps the dogs out of the roses right by the house. I'm so glad that I glanced down from the feeder and found him. Poor baby.
He does look cold! Hope his little feet aren't frozen to the fence! (We found a little goldfinch trapped inside our birdfeeder yesterday... out of the wind, but oh so, cold. We set him free.)
Wonderful capture, Cathy. He looks so cold. I have read that they have much warmer body temps than ours, but I don't know what that means when it is so bitterly cold.
You would think a brightly coloured bird like that would only be found in a very hot place....he looks so out of place shivering on that branch......poor little thing you do right to be worried Cathy.
Poor thing he does look really cold. Great capture. I said before I wonder how these birds survive in the snow because red against white is no sort of camouflage.
I love his colour. It does make you wonder about their resilience to extreme weather conditions, they look so tiny and fragile. Let's hope he has a warm nest somewhere sheltered from the cold.
Oh Boy! he really looks cold! Have been watching your weather on TV, it looks pretty extreme, we haven't had any real cold whether here just extremely wet!
@cdonohoue Thanks, Cathy. I have been trying to take more pictures of birds, but am not always successful and never have the results you seem to get. Yours are just outstanding!
