Maggie decided that she would stay still long enough for me to catch her picture.
Church this morning was wonderful. We had a young lady play the xylophone! I'd never heard it like that before. They did a bit of ragtime for the intro, something soft for the offering and something really lively for the recessional. It was fun. For some good news - after six months of being nomads we will begin worshiping in our new home in mid July. It will have a lovely worship area on the lower level and coffee area. Upstairs will be offices, Sunday School rooms and a huge area for Baby Bear and a "conversational" area where we hope to have college students drop in and use wifi and maybe remember that church is not so bad.
I'm of two minds about being a Presbyterian this week. Not trying to get political - just keeping it real for the diary part of this. I am over the moon that we will now allow our pastors to marry "committed couples" and not just "a man and a woman." That is dear to my heart - and the guys next door. I'm an activist from the '60's of love for all. The second thing that our General Assembly decided does not thrill my heart. They are divesting themselves of money invested in companies that do business in Israel. I do not understand this one.
From one Presbyterian to another, I had the same reaction to the two votes. We did have an informative discussion during the Sunday School hour, discussing the 2 positions. Our guest preacher was an observer at the GA last week so he had some valuable insights to share. Bottom line on the divestment issue was that 2 years ago the proposal failed by a few votes, this year it passed by about the same number. The vote was not a vote on Israel which the denomination continues to support. It came after many years of trying to reach a solution with the 3 companies through discussion. PCUSA realizes the divestment will not matter to Caterpillar et.al. but it the act is a symbol of living the faith. I think it was a publicity move, pure and simple but I'm sure most of those voting believe they are following God's will. I guess it bothers me that the this purely symbolic move should only be against one side in that ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Love this shot with the ears up! i hope you gave her an extra treat!
