This isn't the best photo I ever took. But I did it. You have no idea how much it took for me to go into the reptile house. This is my big phobia. But I couldn't whimp out in front of the seven year old. It was members night at the zoo last night and they had special animal encounters going on all over the place. He petted a boa constrictor and whatever this one is. I stood there and I took the shot - and then I promptly excused myself. I'm pretty proud of myself - but I think I'm probably good for the next ten years or so.
eeeek! snakes give me nightmares. two years ago when i started doing the get pushed challenge, i was pushed to "face my greatest fear". photographing dogs was easy but i thought there's one fear i needed to conquer, so i went to the zoo. to look through the view finder to focus was just too long for me. i got a good shot, but i was tensed for days after. yes, i'm good for the rest of my life not seeing or looking at a snake. but good on you for having gone there and photographed this. your experience was worse as there was no glass between you and the snake. shivers!!!
Well done Cathy. Great effort. I had a python around my neck two weeks ago because I went to a wildlife sanctuary as a guest of my nephew's partner and my "brother" put it around his neck so how could I whimp out seriously.Garrett looks pretty comfortable there.
Ha! Well done - I give you a sticker for bravery! We have a chap come to school with boxes of snakes, spiders, even a skunk this year. Of course we all have to be brave but at least I get to hide behind my camera..!
You are amazing for doing this! This shot would be way too close for me!! I am petrified of snakes too. Many years ago when my boys were young, a friend of ours was trying to convince me that they should have some sort of reptile "pet"- a snake or a monitor lizard. I told him that the God had made those creatures to be outdoors, not inside in a cage. There was nothing he could do to argue against that as he was a naturalist at heart and his own collection consisted of animals that could not be reintroduced to their natural habitat. Thank goodness he finally gave up! So again, I applaud you for getting this shot at this close range!!
