I am honored to have my "Winter" photo selected by the staff of Spring Grove and then voted on by the folks that attended the Lantern Lighting last Saturday, receive a spot in the 2018 Spring Grove Calendar. It is a really big deal to me as I spend a lot of time in that cemetery.
Cemeteries used to do me in. I, like most folks, had as little to do as possible with anything surrounding that ultimate loss. I avoided funerals unless they were relatives. I "didn't know what to say." Maturity taught me that I didn't need to know. I just needed to let folks know that I loved them and cared about the one that they were mourning.
When I began to be more serious about learning what and where my camera could take, me I was in my early 60's. I needed to find places where the camera and I were both safe. I have a zoo pass and a Krohn pass. Wanting to try more took me to the Grove. I was so proud of myself the first year that I recorded the seasons. Now it is my favorite place to take my camera and my soul for a spin. I totally know that I am on sacred ground. If I have a little something, or a lot, to say to my Creator I do it there while I find something that I want to shoot.
Congratulations, Cathy. This is a beautiful photo with lovely tones (which makes it look like a sketching), lots of details and great composition...love the doors' color...great narrative too.
I love your composition and the tones of this photo. And of course, the church (?) is such a beautiful building - the green door adds so much to this photo. Simply stunning! I really enjoyed your narrative. Congratulations on your achievement!! Fav.
