One of our highlights was the whale watching cruise. This is prime time for whales in the bay by Lahaina. They come down from the colder waters to mate and then again to have the babies. We saw all kinds of them. We actually saw one breach - jump right out of the water - and I was so in awe of it I missed the shot. But I got lots of blow holes and tail action - with the city of Lahaina in the background.
How very cool. I would so love to see that. We had an opportunity once to go to Bodega Bay when there were tons of whales in the bay that you could see from an overlook. We made plans to go and then a kid got sick and we had to scrub the trip. I've got to go whale watching some day! Love your tale of the tail;-)!
Isn't fun to see them do that. I have such wonderful memories of whale watching. You sure have a great shot here, Cathy. One funny story is when my MIL and I went and I took my camera and then stopped to have it developed and there was something wrong with the film--NOT ONE PICTURE CAME OUT ; (
Seeing the whales breach, and hearing them underwater was one of the highlights of my trip to Maui years ago. We went out on a whale watching excursion and saw a number of them, but at a distance - some kind of regulation about staying so far away. The next night we went out on a dinner cruise and they had no regulation so we got to get up close and personal with the whales during dinner.
Fabulous shot! "We" got lots of heads and bodies but no tails on our "snorkeling-turned-whale-watching" excursion just off Puerto Vallarta. Marvin did the shooting because the 78-foot sail boat we were on was doing too much rocking and rolling for me to be able to use the camera... I was focusing on keeping my lunch where it belonged! :) But I posted his video anyway because I just wanted to share it with all my 365 friends. And I did do the editing... :) http://365project.org/marilyn/365/2013-01-11
Oh how wonderful!! I would love to see whales. We drove up to the north of Scotland but there were only 2 places left on the trip, and there were 3 of us! Can't imagine what it must have been like in the warmth with a city like that within reach. Gorgeous. Almost glad you missed the shot of the leap through enjoying it so much :)
