Sometimes I think it would be wonderful to have a home right on the beach, but then when a bad storm goes through, I think how safe I am in the foothills of the mountains, a five hour drive away.

Yes. We don’t live right on the beach, and I’m forever grateful for that fact. It’s a huge upkeep, what with the sea air and sand and rust and damp - and as you say, storms. The views are pretty phenomenal, though - that’s one massive uptick in their favour.
