While I was scuffing around earlier looking for weeds and things, I was accompanied by this amiable white hen, who quite happily scrabbled and scratched along with me.
I was glad of the company, I didn't feel quite so daft what with this unlikely cohort at my side... lol.
Chooks are a funny thing, they are definitely companion animals, but wholly on the off chance something presents for them. This photo reminds me of a photo my father took back from the 50's of him and some friends in the middle of now where, top end of Australia at a tin mine, two guys sitting under a palm tree, one guy is feeding a chicken, just happy in what he is doing.
I can well picture that. There’s something about a hen - or a chook, love that name! - clucking at your side that’s pleasantly comforting and soothing.
This hen probably belonged to people who live just on the other side of the unoccupied property I was tramping about on. I heard other clucking noises coming from that direction. She seemed really sociable.
