nice bokeh and colours, don't give up on aperture priority , I shoot with it all the time, use your 'spot focus' to set your focus point rather than letting the camera do the work. I'd have spot focussed on the astronauts visor .
I too use AP all the time. The automatic focus puts up a square box of where it is focusing. I like your astronaut. I bet NASA was an interesting place for your husband to work too.
If you use single point auto focus and use the joystick to move it around the frame you can control exactly what your camera is focusing on. Alternatively, you can set it to the centre then focus and recompose but this can be rather clumsy. Merry Christmas Corinne
